So far we have been able to review the use of two out of three Microsoft Office programs. We used Word to create a few documents, Powerpoint to create a presentation, and now we will use Excel to create some spreadsheets. Microsoft excel is a program that is all about information. If you know how to use it, it can enable you to crunch numbers, create charts and graphs, or even keep track of budgets and survey results. It can be used very creatively to do may things. However, before we use it, we are going to begin working on a new EVERFI curriculum called Vault. My goal for our use of spreadsheets this year is to complete a simulation of a real home budget. But before we talk about home budgets, it's important for you to really understand MONEY! Click here, select Register as a Student, and use the class code (on the white board) to sign up for a VAULT account (just like you did when you signed up for Ignition).

12/12/2012 0 Comments Weekly Journal Entry #4Good Afternoon Everyone, Normally we won't have a second weekly journal entry within a single week, but today I found a really fun question I can't wait to see your response to ;-) Weekly Journal Entry #4: As you know, Christmas is coming up. Many of you will be celebrating with a family gift exchange. Today I would like you to think, and write, about your very first toy (that you can remember). Tell me about it. Describe it. What made it so great? When you finish, open up your Digital Culture Bag. Did you finish it? Did you post those screenshots of it to Weebly on Monday/Tuesday? Here is your Weekly Journal Entry #3
If you could have lunch with any famous person who would it be? What would you talk about with this person? Today's Assignment (after your journal entry is done of course): You will be taking a series of screenshots of your Digital Culture Bag today and uploading them to a new webpage. 12/5/2012 0 Comments Culture Bag part IIGood Afternoon. Get that digital culture bag opened from last class. Spend the first 30 minutes of class working on it. Remember our definition of Culture: attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterize you. Your image should be a SYMBOL (a thing that represents or stands for something else or abstract). Last class many of you were doing a great job thinking up symbols to represent parts of your culture. For instance, consider the slides below. "The image of the Lego bricks symbolizes me because I am a very creative person. There is nothing more creative than a pile of LEGO bricks. You can literally create anything you want to if you have enough of them, and a large imagination. I am the kind of person who sees the creative possibility in everything." Last reminder: be careful not to let your slides become "show-and-tell." This is a thinking assignment. You should really think deeply about the images and words you choose. If in doubt, call me over to look at your slide.
12/3/2012 1 Comment Digital Culture BagGood afternoon! I hope everyone is feeling great! Let's get started. Today I want to review one of the programs you learned pretty well last year. Powerpoint. Powerpoint is a program that allows you to make class and work presentations more interesting and more powerful. They are not meant to include a ton of text, but instead to be bullet-pointed summaries of the overall presentation you are giving. The powerpoint project we are going to work on, will eventually become part of your webpage. 1. Please open up the program called "Powerpoint" on your computer (it's in the dock). Then wait for instructions. 11/30/2012 0 Comments Second Practice J0urnal PostOkay, let's repeat that and make sure you understand the process really well.
Here is your Weekly Journal Entry Question #2 Describe your favorite season (fall, spring, summer, or winter). Tell what kinds of things you like to do during that season. Complete this task just like before, except you don't have to make a new blog page. Just click "New Post" on the blog you made at the beginning of class. 11/28/2012 0 Comments Wednesday/FridayGood Afternoon! We are going to start today with something I will be calling "The Weekly Journal Entry." Each week, from now on I will be asking you a question, and you will respond to the question on your own blog (creating a new blog post entry each time). The Weekly Journal Entry Question for this week is this: Which superpower would you most like to have-- invisibility, super strength, or the ability to fly? Describe what kinds of things you would do with your powers. (one paragraph minimum) Now, in order to answer this question you will need to: 1. log-in to your weebly account. 2. Click the "Pages" tab. 3. "Add a Blog" and save settings. 4. Click on your blog page and select the "new post" button. 5. Title your post "Weekly Journal Entry #1" 6. Drag down the "Paragraph with Picture" element from the elements bar. 7. Copy and Paste the Journal Entry Question from above. 8. Answer the question with as much detail as possible. 9. Find a superhero picture to add. 10. Finish your entry in no more than 10 minutes (Publish Live). This assignment is only supposed to take approximately 13 minutes. So, hurry up! When you finish: Work on your biography page for a few moments. 11/26/2012 37 Comments Welcome Back Everyone! My son, Grayson, sitting with his Mickey Mouse Hey everyone! Welcome back from our nice long Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you had a great thanksgiving. Click on the comments button at the bottom of this assignment and tell me what the best thing you ate this weekend was (doesn't have to be from your thanksgiving meal). I already posted what the best thing I ate was. After you have done that I would like you to log-in to your weebly editor. We really need to finish those biography pages as soon as possible so we can move onto bigger and more exciting projects. Today I want to show you how to embed video into your biography page. You will remember that last week I had you watch a you tube video (Charlie Brown Thanksgiving) right from the 6th grade computer page. You can do something similar to your webpages. I will demonstrate today. In addition I want to demonstrate to everyone in class at once, how to embed your bio-poem onto your webpage as well. 11/19/2012 1 Comment ThanksgivingIt's almost Thanksgiving! Below is a little treat for you in celebration of this very special holiday. Watch it. Then post a response to my very important question below! Now that you have submitted that, check out this Brainpop movie on the real history behind the Thanksgiving tradition: http://www.brainpop.com/socialstudies/culture/thanksgiving/ Then take the graded quiz and email your results to ryan.griswold@caminonuevo.org Again, email your response to ryan.griswold@caminonuevo.org
Don't forget to put your name on there! 11/16/2012 0 Comments Happy Friday! To review, last tuesday we really worked hard on those biography pages. I reviewed how to embed images, and I demonstrated how to add video. If you did not finish adding your information to your biography page, that is where you will begin today. If you did finish adding the info about your famous historical figure, and you finished adding the video and photos, I have a separate assignment for you that I will call you over to my desk to show you (embedding your bio poem into your webpage). |
